Short Film Influence Ideas - Project Smile (Said WALI, 2015)

I really liked the first instant shot of this film. Showing a medium shot of the man's back (instant ambiguity and enigma) but also including a longer shot of the poster of a smiling woman, automatically visually linking to the message of the title and the film its-self while making it seem a subtle part of every day life - a successful use of verisimilitude which is both realistic yet impactful when exploring the plot of the film from the very beginning.

The general plot of this film was also effective. I engaged with its simplicity as it explored a more positive yet everyday theme of happiness which other short films tend to stray away from as they have mainly focused on deeper more distressing plots. I am hoping to use this idea of contentment throughout my short film, even linking back to films such as Connect which explored more positively long lasting ideas.

I also intend on using the close up shots with a shallow depth of field as they help to really focus on the character's expressions without the need for any dialogue to explain their emotions.
